It makes me wonder what kind of person will queue up to shake the hands of a man that has just been convicted of sexual assault in this day and age?
It makes me wonder who agrees with the intimidation of the victim of the crime because she reported and had the strength to testify against someone accused of sexual assault?
It really makes me wonder when a priest gives a character reference for the convicted without being in court to actually hear the evidence? What difference does it make that this man attended mass with his Granny every Sunday? If anything this man convicted of sexual assault has turned his back on the church that this priest supposidly represents. At least the priest has finally stood down from the parish.
So people of Listowel what do want your town remembered as? Somewhere where those convicted of sexual assault are held in higher regard than victims of their crimes or somewhere that upholds the rule of law and shuns those who support criminals. Think of this scenario, every time a foreign traveller searches the name of Listowel over the internet the first details that they will be presented with is the support this man received from so called pillars of the community. Do you think that will make your location an attractive place to visit? How about if the victim of this crime was your daughter or sister, how would you feel now about your local town.
Yes the 50 “men” of Listowel you have made your home infamous for all the wrong reasons.
Someback background to the case is here
There is a facebook group showing support for the victim in this case setup here.
Well said. I’m sorry to say however, that the “50″ were not all men. I believe there were a scattering of women amongst them too, which in my eyes, makes it even worse. They should be so ashamed.
Noreen I used the “50 men” because as a title it sounded better. Unfortunately I do realise that there were women within that infamous number.
I think it is very kind of you to describe these people as ’50men’.
Anne if you notice I call them men in quotes. They are far from real men!
I was being sarcastic, Paul.
I despise people who bully and intimidate others. Anne
